Twelve profiles
Every profile below can be cut at 20mm or built up to 40mm, 60mm and custom thicknesses. Where the shape allows it we mitre the front so the slab’s veining wraps over the corner; otherwise the build-up is laminated with a strip of the same stone.

How an edge profile is made

Cut and build up
Every piece is cut from your slab on the CNC bridge saw. A 20mm edge is shaped straight from the slab. For 40mm, 60mm and custom thicknesses we laminate a strip of the same stone under the front, or mitre-fold the front down so the veining wraps over the corner.

Shape on the profiling wheel
The edge runs past a set of diamond profiling wheels, each ground to the exact profile. The first wheel roughs the shape in and the next ones refine it, pass by pass, until the curve is true along the full length.

Polish to match
Finer and finer grits bring the edge up to the same polish as the top, or the same hone on a honed slab, so the front and the surface read as one piece of stone.
Choosing an edge
Kitchen benchtops
Pencil round, square and arris carry the everyday work of a kitchen. Easy to wipe, hard to chip, and they never fight the stone.
Islands and waterfall ends
Here the edge is the feature. A 40mm, 60mm or custom mitred front with a square or shark nose edge makes the island read as one solid block.
Vanities
Softer, tactile profiles suit hands and towels: half bullnose, pencil round or a fine bevel.
Traditional kitchens
Ogee, lamb’s tongue and Dupont bring the moulded detail a Hamptons or French provincial kitchen asks for.
Splashbacks and shelves
Thin visible edges on splashbacks, shelves and window sills are usually pencil round or eased square, kept plain so the slab pattern runs uninterrupted.
Edge profile questions
What is the difference between 20mm, 40mm, 60mm and custom?
Slabs are 20mm thick. A thicker edge is built up: a strip of the same stone is laminated under the front, or the front is mitred so the top folds down over it. The profile is then shaped on the built-up edge, so the same pencil round or ogee reads bolder at 40mm, heavier again at 60mm, and we can build custom thicknesses beyond that.
Laminated or mitred: which should I choose?
A mitred front folds the slab’s own pattern over the corner, so the veining runs down the face with no glue line; it suits square arris and pencil round edges. A laminated front shows a fine seam on the face and suits every profile, including the rounded and moulded ones. The explorer above only offers the build-ups we do for each profile.
Which edge is easiest to live with?
Pencil round. It hides small knocks, wipes clean and suits both modern and traditional joinery. Full bullnose is the safest choice where children are around.
Can I see the edge on my stone before you cut it?
Yes. Every job is drawn and rendered in 3D in your slab before it goes to the saw, and you can try every profile in the stones we stock on this page right now.
Can I mix profiles, or have one made?
Yes. We can cut any profile, not only the twelve shown, and we combine them: one profile on the top edge and a different one on the bottom, a profile flipped upside down or reversed, a shape over a laminated strip or on a mitred apron, thicker or thinner than standard, or a custom section drawn from your sketch. Tell us what you have in mind and we shape it on the wheel.
