Fluted stone panels, carved on our own saw
Caruso Group Marble carves fluting, reeding and scalloped profiles straight into solid stone in our Bayswater workshop. Island fronts, splashbacks, waterfall ends and vanity fronts, cut on a CNC bridge saw from the same slab as your benchtop so the veining runs through.
Pick one of the eight profiles or design your own. Move the sliders for pitch, depth, groove shape and stone thickness and the carved panel updates in real time, in the slab colours we stock. Scallop 22.5
22.5 mm pitch · 3 mm deep · half-round
A fine scallop with a subtle ripple. Quiet enough for a vanity front or a small feature panel.
Demi Round 40
40 mm pitch · 5.6 mm proud · reeded
Reeds standing proud of the face on a 40 mm rhythm. Bold in raking light, classic on a bar front.
Demi Round 20
20 mm pitch · 4.6 mm proud · reeded
The tighter reed. A dense, tactile texture for splashbacks and joinery infills.
Column flute
30 mm pitch · 10 mm deep · half-round
Deep classical fluting in the Ionic manner. Strong shadow lines for a statement column or plinth.
Kit-Kat 25
25 mm pitch · 4 mm deep · flat-bottom
Flat-bottomed channels, the kit-kat tile look in solid stone with no grout lines to keep clean.
V-channel 30
30 mm pitch · 6 mm deep · vee
A crisp vee cut on a 30 mm pitch. The most graphic profile, sharpest shadow, best on flat, uniform stones.
Bold scallop 60
60 mm pitch · 12 mm deep · half-round
Statement scallops for large island fronts and feature walls where the panel is seen from across the room.
How a fluted panel is made

You choose the profile, pitch and depth. Our drawing software lays the grooves out across the exact piece, so the pattern lands centred on an island front or runs clean off a splashback edge.

The CNC bridge saw plunges a kerf-wide diamond blade and runs the length of the panel, stepping 2.9 mm across between passes. A 600 mm wide panel takes a couple of hundred passes.

The stepped roughing is ground to the true curve, then honed or polished to match the benchtop it sits beside.
Where fluting belongs
Island fronts
The classic. A fluted face on the seating side of a kitchen island, in the same stone as the top.
Splashbacks
A carved splashback behind the cooktop or a bar, with the grooves stopping neatly inside a solid border.
Waterfall ends
Fluting carried down a waterfall end so the benchtop reads as one carved block.
Vanity fronts
Fine scallops and reeds on bathroom vanities and laundry fronts.
Feature walls
Bold scallops on fireplace surrounds, reception counters and lobby walls.
Stone carving questions
Which stones can be fluted?
Most natural stones and engineered surfaces we stock. Dense marbles, quartzites and granites hold a crisp groove; softer or heavily veined stones suit the wider, shallower scallops. We check each slab before we carve it.
How deep can the grooves go?
Depth is limited by the stone’s thickness. On 20 mm stock we carve up to around 12 mm deep; thicker material allows deeper, bolder profiles.
Does the fluting match my benchtop?
Yes. Carved panels are cut from the same slab as the benchtop wherever the layout allows, so colour and veining run through from top to front.
